Are you exhausted, working too much and having little time for life? I remember when I started Rivera Business Development. I was so happy to start a business, share my passion for entrepreneurship and be in control. I could live life as I envisioned it, until one day it wasn’t fun anymore.
It’s business, and not fun every day. Get over it. That’s what I said to myself and what you may be thinking right now. Why not? I went into to business to have fun doing what I love. Why did you go into business? Didn’t you want to start a business so you could be in control of your life and make money doing something you enjoy? I certainly did. So what do you do when you start asking yourself if you made the right decision? If you want to redesign your business to fit your life, keep reading.
Go back to the beginning
When you had a vision for starting a company, what did you see? Don’t start with the business stuff. What lifestyle did you imagine it would afford you? What would the money do for your life? Was it to spend more time with your loved ones? What did that look like? Was it to have the freedom to move about the world as you please? What would that life be like?
If you’re like me, you started a business to fit your lifestyle and not fit your lifestyle into a business. Fitting your life into your business is called employment.
Where’s the passion?
To keep the passion going in a relationship, you must nurture the relationship and take care of it. To stay passionate about anything in life, you have to do the same. If you started a business to do what you want or love, you have to take care of the relationship between your life and your business. If it becomes all work and no play, you lose the passion. You must take care of yourself in order to take care of your business. How you feel will reflect on how you take care of your clients, your team and your business. What do you need to do right now to bring back the passion?
Redesign or Get Out
Redesign the business model. If you don’t, you might as well start your exit strategy and get out.
First steps in the design process:
• How do you run your business now?
• How is it affecting your lifestyle?
• What could you do differently?
• What systems could you change or implement?
• What technologies will make life easier and more efficient?
• Build a team to run business without you?
Redesigning your business to fit your lifestyle is not easy for anyone already in business. It is best do so from the beginning. However, if you want to live with passion and purpose, you must create a new model for your business. There are better ways to be in business and live a lifestyle custom made for you.
